SEPTEMBER 2, 2002

Although they missed the playoffs, the ever-improving BlueClaws finished the 2nd half of their 2nd season with a 36-34 record, narrowly missing the break-even mark for the season (69-70). Great job Lakewood! Next season will be the one where you breakout!

AUGUST 2, 2001

Robinson Tejeda pitched a 7-inning 1-hitter with 9 strikeouts to lead the BlueClaws to a 4-0 shutout win over the Greensboro Bats in Game 1 of a doubleheader. It appeared that Lakewood was destined to win the nightcap as well until a 2-out throwing error in the bottom of the 7th (last inning of the shortened doubleheader games) caused a 4-1 lead to rapidly decay into a 6-4 loss. The BlueClaws remain 1 game under the .500 mark with an 18-19 second half record.

JULY 31, 2001

Lakewood relievers coughed up a pair of runs in the bottom of the 9th as the BlueClaws let a potential road win slip away for a 4-3 loss to the Greensboro Bats.

The productive homestand boosted Lakewood's 2nd half record to 15-13, moving them into 5th place just 2 1/2 games out of 1st place. It figures that the first BlueClaws game that I attend (7/20 versus the Bats) is their only loss in a 8-game (and counting) stretch - and it was ugly.

Home Sweet Home!!! The BlueClaws won their first two home games, with a 3-2 victory in the continuation of yesterday's game, and a no-hitter against the Hickory Crawdads en route to an 11-1 victory in tonight's regularly scheduled game! What a great start for baseball's return to Ocean County! Lakewood held tight to last night's score as they completed the second half of the game to officially win their home debut 3-2. Then, BlueClaws starter Keith Bucktrot completely dominated the Crawdads for a 7-inning no-hitter (minor league baseball games are frequently shortened to 7 innings for doubleheaders like this). Although he finished the game without any walks, his perfect game bid was spoiled in the 6th inning when an infielder's error allowed Hickory's first base runner. A 3-base error in the 7th inning followed by a run-scoring ground out spoiled Bucktrot's shutout bid and led to the 11-1 final.

APRIL 6, 2001

The Lakewood BlueClaws rallied from a 4-0 deficit, but fell just short of stealing their first victory. BlueClaws starter Ryan Carter takes the loss, allowing 4 runs in 5 2/3 innings of work before his teammates mounted a comeback attempt with 2 runs in the 7th and 1 run in the 8th. The noble effort was far more impressive than Thursday's debut but Lakewood fell 4-3.
