Professional baseball has found a home in Frisco, Texas! The Frisco RoughRiders (Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers) made their debut at Frisco's Dr. Pepper / Seven Up Ballpark on Thursday, April 3, 2003. The RoughRiders clinched a Texas League playoff berth with the best record in the Eastern Division for the first half of the season, and captured the Division Championship with a 3-game sweep of the Wichita Wranglers. Despite their excellent inaugural campaign, the RoughRiders fell to the San Antonio Missions in the Texas League Championship. The RoughRiders' 2nd season is now under way!

Frisco Professional Baseball held a "Baseball Launch" press conference at the Westin Stonebriar Resort on December 3, 2001 to announce that Southwest Sports Group (owner of the Texas Rangers and Dallas Stars) and Mandalay Sports Entertainment are partnering to bring the Texas League's Shreveport Swamp Dragons to Frisco for the start of the 2003 baseball season. The team will be the future Double-A affiliate of the Texas Rangers. They will play in the ballpark that will be the centerpiece of the sports complex that Southwest Sports Group is constructing in Frisco at the northeast corner of the State Highway 121 and Dallas North Tollway intersection. The ballpark is being designed by renowned architect David Schwarz and the Dallas-based HKS Inc, whose previous designs include The Ballpark in Arlington and the American Airlines Center in Dallas. The Frisco ballpark will have seating for 8800 with outfield lawn seating to accomodate an additional 1800 fans.

The Frisco sports complex will also feature a new practice facility and organizational headquarters for the NHL's Dallas Stars. The Frisco StarCenter will feature two NHL-size ice rinks with a 4000 seat arena suitable for scholastic and junior hockey (NAHL's Texas Tornado). Accompanying the ballpark and arena will be acres of office, retail, residential, and hotel space.
