Jed Whitchurch News

SEPTEMBER 25, 2003
It's hard to believe that it has already been 4 years since Jed Whitchurch first skated into Trenton, New Jersey to become one of the inaugural members of the Trenton Titans hockey team. On and off the ice, Jed quickly became a fan favorite in Trenton and everywhere else that Titans fan reside. He appeared in 114 regular season games and tallied 34 goals and 87 points before being traded to the New Orleans Brass on 2/8/2001 to the dismay of thousands of fans. His name remains 8th for games played and 6th on the Titans all-time list for goals, assists, and points. These days,
Jed enjoys married life with his wife Danielle, his other true love (fishing), and his career with the Dupage County Forest Preserve Police. While his ECHL days are a fading memory, Jed Whitchurch will always be a vital part of the Trenton Titans and Unofficial Web Site history.

JANUARY 31, 2003
The New Year finds Jed Whitchurch firmly entrenched in his career in law enforcement (photos above and below).

AUGUST 15, 2002
Rumors of Jed Whitchurch's return to professional hockey this fall aren't true, but he has returned for The Unofficial Web Site's 20 Questions with Officer Whitchurch!
APRIL 6, 2002
With the last beads of melted ice now long gone from his skate blades, Jed Whitchurch is beginning his new career in law enforcement. Officer Whitchurch: Dupage County Forest Preserve Police. No, we're not merely talking about a forest ranger who spends his time chasing down and reprimanding a bear (albeit smarter than the average bear) who steals 'pic-a-nic' baskets. "I will enforce all state and federal laws including conservation laws (hunting and fishing), traffic,
numerous investigations, and undercover work. You name it... we do it... It is a nice universal law enforcement job," said Whitchurch about his new job. Congratulations Jed!

CURSE OF JED? Hockey is a sport full of superstitions, jinxes, and other oddities -- so consider this: The New Orleans Brass decided to cut Jed Whitchurch in a panic-driven roster shakeup just 2 games into the season after dropping a home-and-home to the archrival Louisiana IceGators. Nevermind the fact that Jed was one of their few signs of life, providing half of the Brass' goals (2 of 4) in those games. Here's a brief history lesson: After going 1-5-0 against the Gators last season, New Orleans acquired Jed Whitchurch from
the Trenton Titans. In Jed's Brass debut, they defeated Louisiana 3-2. Between the regular season and playoffs last year, New Orleans was 1-5-0 against the Gators without Jed, 3-3-2 with him. Did this season's roster moves help the Brass? Well, they have gone a very respectable 27-14-1 (.655) without Mr. Whitchurch on their roster. Oh, that's if you leave out their 10 games against the Louisiana IceGators, in which they are 0-9-1!!! It would serve them right to never win another game against the IceGators.
NOVEMBER 16, 2001
Aniket Dhadphale has erased Jed Whitchurch's franchise record of 84 consecutive regular season games played for the Trenton Titans. However, Jed's plus/minus rating of +29 during the Titans' inaugural season is likely to remain as a franchise
record for the time being with Trenton's highest rated player currently at +8. Whitchurch also maintains a share of several game and period scoring records for the Titans.
OCTOBER 19, 2001
It is with great sadness that we report that Jed Whitchurch has retired. Good Luck Jed and Thank You for bringing a touch of class to the Trenton Titans and New Orleans Brass.
OCTOBER 18, 2001
The hockey world hit Jed Whitchurch with another nasty slapshot today as the New Orleans Brass waived him despite the fact that he was their team goal-scoring leader (albeit, after only 2 games). It came in the middle of a huge roster shakeup in New Orleans
following their 0-2 season start. Best wishes Jed, wherever the future takes you!
OCTOBER 12, 2001
Well, the New Orleans Brass dropped their season opener 6-3 to the Louisiana IceGators, but Jed Whitchurch started his season with a bang! Facing a 5-1 deficit midway through the game, Jed notched a goal to give the Brass a glimmer of hope. New
Orleans finally gained momentum in the 3rd period, but once again, only Whitchurch slipped the puck past Louisiana netminder Marc Magliarditi. Despite Jed's attempts to spark a rally, the Gators kept the Brass at arms length, capitalizing on a rough
night for New Orleans netminder Ron Vogel. Great effort Mr. Whitchurch!
OCTOBER 12, 2001
GAME ON! Jed Whitchurch and the New Orleans Brass host the Louisiana IceGators tonight for the 2001/2002 season opener! The Brass will be looking for revenge after the IceGators defeated them in Game 5 of the Conference Quarterfinals to end their
2000/2001 season. GO BRASS! GO JED!
SEPTEMBER 30, 2001
Jed Whitchurch and the New Orleans Brass open their training camp today. Best wishes for a great season for Jed and the Brass!

APRIL 14, 2001
Congratulations to the New Orleans Brass and especially Jed Whitchurch for a great effort down the final stretch of the regular season, in the wildcard round, and in the quarterfinals despite the mountain of adversity you faced! You have a lot to be proud of! Keep your heads held high and we will see you again in October!
APRIL 12, 2001
We're headed for a Saturday night showdown at the Cajundome! The New Orleans Brass defeated the Louisiana IceGators 3-2 to force a decisive Game 5 in their Southern Conference Quarterfinals series. Brass goaltender Ron Vogel deserves sainthood for keeping New Orleans alive in the playoffs! Not only
did he stop 55 of 57 Louisiana shots, he assisted on the game-winning goal! Without Vogel, there would be no Game 5! Speaking of which, the Cajundome is the scene of the Brass' 1998/1999 Game 5 Quarterfinals upset of the Louisiana IceGators. Let's hope history repeats itself on Saturday night! GO BRASS!! GO JED!!!
APRIL 10, 2001
The Louisiana IceGators scored 3 goals on 21 second period shots en route to a 4-1 defeat of the Brass at New Orleans Arena. The victory gave the 'Gators a 2-1 series lead, placing Jed Whitchurch and the New Orleans Brass on the brink of playoff elimination. New Orleans must win Thursday night at home and Saturday at Louisiana's Cajundome in order to advance to the Southern Conference Semi-Finals.
APRIL 8, 2001
Jed Whitchurch and the New Orleans Brass rallied in the 3rd period to even their Southern Conference Quarterfinals series 1-1 with a 5-3 road victory over the Louisiana IceGators, stealing home ice advantage with the next 2 games at New Orleans Arena. Adam Edinger notched 2 goals and 2 assists while his former Titans teammate Jed Whitchurch picked up an assist. New Orleans netminder Ron Vogel made 42 saves to improve to 3-1-1 on the postseason.
APRIL 6, 2001
The New Orleans Brass demonstrated exactly the kind of never-say-die spirit they will need to upset the Louisiana IceGators, but lost Game 1 of the Southern Conference Quarterfinals 8-7 in the 2nd overtime! Louisiana jumped out to a 3-1 lead in the 1st period but the Brass refused to surrender. As the IceGators piled on the goals, New Orleans refused to roll over and rallied back to outscore Louisiana 3-1 in the 3rd period to send the game into overtime with a 7-7 tie. The bonus round was a completely different game as
the Brass and 'Gators battled into a 2nd overtime period before Louisiana's Jay Murphy decided to complete his hat trick to end the marathon. Former Titan Adam "Hat Trick" Edinger notched a trio of goals earlier in the game for the Brass.
APRIL 4, 2001
After an emotional roller coaster ride, Jed Whitchurch and the New Orleans Brass knocked out the Augusta Lynx to advance to the Southern Conference Quarterfinals where they'll face the Louisiana IceGators! After winning Game 1 last night, goalie Ron Vogel and his Brass teammates got ambushed in the opening period of tonight's Game 2. The Lynx built a 4-0 lead by the 13:25 mark, prompting New Orleans Head Coach Ted Sator to shelf Vogel - a very wise move! Backup netminder Rob Garrick absorbed the rest of the
abuse as Augusta extended their lead to 6-0 by the 1:04 mark of the 2nd frame before New Orleans finally scored a pair of goals. The Lynx responded with 2 more goals for an 8-2 advantage to reassure their visitors that the game was a lost cause. The Brass posted another goal late in the 2nd period, then Augusta sealed the coffin midway through the 3rd for a 9-3 victory. The New Orleans Brass had just a few minutes to recompose theirselves, then onto the minigame with a 'well-rested' Ron Vogel back in net. The
strategy paid off as Vogel held Augusta scoreless through the 10-minute 'game' and into sudden death overtime. That's where Martin Bartek found the net to hand the Brass their Wildcard victory! Now New Orleans enjoys a day off before they begin their Conference Quarterfinals series against the 2nd seeded Louisiana IceGators. Two years ago, the Brass upset the heavily favored IceGators 3 games to 2 in the Quarterfinals, but Louisiana dominated New Orleans 7-2 in 9 games this season. Go Jed!!! Go Brass!!!
APRIL 3, 2001
The New Orleans Brass defeated the Augusta Lynx 4-2 in Game 1 of their Southern Conference Wildcard Series! The Augusta Lynx claimed an early 1-0 lead on a power play goal from former Titans defenseman Likit Andersson, but the Brass responded with a goal from Martin Bartek and a power play tally from former NHLer Jeff Lazaro for a 2-1 advantage heading into the 2nd period. Former Titan Adam Edinger notched a
power play goal (the game-winner) for the Brass early in the 2nd frame, then assisted on a Bryan Forslund insurance goal midway through the 3rd period. Augusta added another power play goal a few minutes later, but it was too little too late as New Orleans held onto the 4-2 victory behind goalie Ron Vogel's 41 save effort. The two teams combined for a total of 94 shots in the game, 27 from the Brass in the opening period alone! Whether its in the regulation Game 2 or
a mini-game afterwards, the series will be decided tomorrow night at Augusta. Geaux Jed! Geaux Brass!
APRIL 1, 2001
The New Orleans Brass (35-25-12) will host the Augusta Lynx (36-29-7) in the "Best of 2" Wildcard round of the Southern Conference playoffs starting Tuesday, April 3rd (7:05pm Central) at the New Orleans Arena. Game 2 will be at Augusta on Wednesday (7:35pm Eastern). Augusta defeated New Orleans 7-1 in their only meeting this season (November 8th), and topped them in the Wildcard round last season 2 games to 1. Payback time!
MARCH 31, 2001
Victories by the Mobile Mysticks and Pee Dee Pride have bumped the Brass to the 7th seed in the Southern Conference, mandating a wildcard appearance for New Orleans. However, losses by the Baton Rouge Kingfish and Arkansas RiverBlades have locked in the 7th seed and home ice advantage for the Brass as they face either the Augusta Lynx (if they lose against the Stingrays tomorrow) or the Baton Rouge Kingfish (if the Lynx win) in
a "Best-of-Two" wildcard series.
MARCH 31, 2001
The New Orleans Brass' regular season came to a close last night with a 6-5 road loss against the Mobile Mysticks. Now all Jed Whitchurch and his teammates can do is watch and wait. Currently, New Orleans owns the Southern Conference's 5th seed, good enough for a direct flight to the Quarterfinals. The outcome of four games tonight and two on Sunday will determine whether the Brass can hang
onto the 5th or 6th seed, or whether they will finish lower and earn a wildcard seed. The lowest the Brass can finish is 9th.
MARCH 29, 2001
Jed Whitchurch opened the scoring with his 17th goal of the season early in the 1st period as the New Orleans Brass skated to a 3-2 road win over the Birmingham Bulls. The victory clinched a playoff berth for New Orleans
and temporarily lifted them to the Southern Conference's 4th seed. The Brass conclude their regular season schedule tomorrow night at Mobile with the opportunity to secure a Quarterfinal bid instead of a wildcard bid.
MARCH 29, 2001
The New Orleans Brass are one win (or Augusta Lynx loss) away from clinching a playoff berth thanks to the great goaltending of Ron Vogel and the Edinger/Forslund/Fultz line. Vogel stopped 35 of 37 shots while Adam Edinger, Bryan Forslund, and Roger Fultz produced all three goals as the Brass defeated the Jackson Bandits 3-2 in overtime. Former Titans netminder
Mike Tamburro took the loss for Jackson. The victory boosts the Brass to the Southern Conference's 7th seed in a 4-way tie at 80 points.
MARCH 28, 2001
Jed Whitchurch and the New Orleans Brass are skating on thin ice tonight as they visit the Jackson Bandits to begin 3 consecutive road games that conclude their regular season schedule. Only 3 points separate the Southern Conference's 3rd seeded Bandits and 10th seeded Brass. Three points behind New Orleans sits the Augusta Lynx, the only team left in
the South able to dethrone one of the current playoff teams. Thursday night, the Brass visit the non-contending Birmingham Bulls, who will be looking to play the role of spoiler. On Friday, New Orleans becomes the first ECHL team to complete their regular season schedule when they visit the Mobile Mysticks, who are 1 of 3 teams currently tied with the Brass
at 78 points (but the Brass have fewer wins than each of them). Two wins (or Augusta losses) will clinch a wildcard bid for the Brass, while a sweep of the 3 remaining games could produce a direct trip to the Quarterfinals (6th seed or higher). In the event that the Brass suffer a complete meltdown and the Lynx grab a playoff spot, there is one more chance
to make the playoffs: the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks will be meeting with the ECHL on Friday to address allegations of salary cap violations. If any games are forfeited, it could bump the Tiger Sharks from the playoffs, opening the door for one more team. But let's kick it up a notch and win all 3 games! GO BRASS!
MARCH 25, 2001
Well, it wasn't the former Titan we hoped that provided the heroics, but the Brass will take it! Adam Edinger notched a hat trick during a 5-goal New Orleans 2nd period to lead the Brass to a much needed 6-2 road victory over the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks. The hat trick came a year and one day after his professional debut with the Trenton Titans
which also featured a hat trick.
MARCH 25, 2001
With a 4-3 shootout loss against the Mobile Mysticks last night, every game is now critical for the New Orleans Brass and Jed Whitchurch. The slumping Brass have slipped to 9th place in the Southern Conference playoff race for 10 postseason bids with only 3 points separating them from the closest team outside of the bubble (Augusta Lynx). New Orleans has only road games
remainining, visiting the Tallahassee Tiger Sharks today and finishing their regular season schedule with games at Jackson (Wednesday), Birmingham (Thursday), and Mobile (Friday). While the Brass are only two points out of 5th place in the crowded conference, they will lose most tiebreakers because of a surplus of overtime/shootout losses. Jed and his teammates need to win
3 out of 4 games to avoid needing help (other teams' losses) for a playoff bid. They will be the first ECHL team to finish their regular season schedule, relegated to watching the sports ticker on Saturday and Sunday to learn their fate and/or seeding. Let's see Jed put some fire into their quest!
MARCH 23, 2001
The New Orleans Brass and Jed Whitchurch were tarnished by a rookie goaltender! In his debut with the Pensacola Ice Pilots, Jeff Blair stopped 46 of 47 Brass bullets en route to a 3-1 upset over New Orleans. After being outshot 14-4 in the opening period, the Brass peppered the rookie with 23 shots in the 2nd frame
and 20 more in the 3rd period, but just couldn't solve the netminder except for a single goal by Ryan Fultz.
MARCH 23, 2001
Jed and the Brass host the Southern Conference cellar-dwelling Pensacola Ice Pilots tonight with a chance to build momentum for critical road games against the Mobile Mysticks (Saturday) and Tallahassee Tiger Sharks (Sunday). My recap of the Unofficial Road Trip is now online.
MARCH 18, 2001
I justed wanted to thank Jed Whitchurch and his fiancee Danielle Iles for a wonderful Unofficial Road Trip visit. (More details to follow later this week.)
MARCH 15, 2001
Jed Whitchurch delivered the game-winner as the New Orleans Brass slipped past those pesky Tallahassee Tiger Sharks 4-3! After losing three leads to Tallahassee, Jed notched his 4th Brass goal at 5:48 of the 3rd period to put New Orleans ahead once and for all. (Stay tuned for the scanned in headlines later this week.)
MARCH 15-18, 2001
The Unofficial Web Site is hitting the pavement for a road trip to the Big Easy to rendezvous with former Titan Jed Whitchurch! Well, to be technically correct, Jo Ann and I will be hitting the tarmac for a flight to New Orleans, Louisiana to catch the New Orleans Brass' March 17th game against the Baton Rouge Kingfish. Unfortunately, while we are enjoying hockey
in the Big Easy, The Unofficial Web Site will not be updated from March 15th through March 18th. The site will be updated as soon as possible following the trip. Thank you in advance for your patience. Details of The Unofficial Road Trip will appear in a special edition of Titanic that will debut by March 23rd.
MARCH 10, 2001
Jed Whitchurch notched his 3rd goal as a member of the Brass as New Orleans muzzled the Greenville Grrrowl 7-1. Goalie Ron Vogel stopped 40 of 41 shots to improve to 13-4-1 for the Brass.
MARCH 9, 2001
After a 2-1 overtime victory against the Pensacola Ice Pilots, Jed Whitchurch and the New Orleans Brass (30-22-10 .565) now have sole possession of 2nd place in the Southwest Division, and are just four points behind the division-leading Louisiana IceGators.
MARCH 6, 2001
The New Orleans Brass avenged Sunday's loss by defeating the RiverBlades 5-1 at Arkansas. With the victory, Jed Whitchurch and krewe are now tied with the RiverBlades for 2nd place in the Southwest Division by points with the Brass having a slight advantage in the win column, but Arkansas having 1 more game left on their schedule than New Orleans.
MARCH 4, 2001
Jed Whitchurch and the Brass were done in by a couple of former Trenton Titans. Lee Jinman tallied a power play goal and two assists while Eric Brule contributed a trio of assists to lead the Arkansas RiverBlades to a 7-6 win over the New Orleans Brass. Whitchurch recorded an assist, along with 3 from teammate and former Titan Adam Edinger, as the
Brass dropped their dropped their 3rd consecutive one-goal game. New Orleans lost 3-2 in overtime to the Louisiana IceGators on Saturday night; Jed didn't factor in the scoring.
MARCH 2, 2001
Jed Whitchurch notched his 2nd Brass goal early in the 3rd period to open up a 4-2 New Orleans lead over the visiting IceGators, but Louisiana rallied back to force overtime and win 5-4 in a shootout. The teams faceoff again Saturday in Lafayette to complete the home-and-home series.
FEBRUARY 28, 2001
The Brass trailed the Florida Everblades 2-1 in the 3rd period when Jed Whitchurch won a battle behind the net and centered a pass for Jeff Lazaro's game-tying goal. Jed's former Titans teammate Adam Edinger buried a power play shot late in the period for his 24th goal of the season and a 3-2 Brass road victory over former Titans Sandy Cohen and
Sean Blanchard. Trenton alum Bujar Amidovski did not appear in net for the Everblades tonight.
FEBRUARY 27, 2001
The Unofficial Road Trip: Just 18 days until The Unofficial Web Site catches up with Jed Whitchurch in New Orleans as the Brass hosts the Baton Rouge Kingfish!
FEBRUARY 25, 2001
Jed Whitchurch set up the 1st period goal that gave the Brass a 1-0 lead, but New Orleans couldn't hold off the Everblades offense as they fell to Florida 2-4.
FEBRUARY 20, 2001
Were Jed Whitchurch and All-Star Cody Bowtell ready to rumble tonight when the Mississippi Sea Wolves hosted the New Orleans Brass? Well, there was no title fight, but their confrontation in front of the players' benches midway through the 1st period earned Whitchurch and Bowtell roughing minors (see photo below). The Brass went on to defeat the Sea Wolves 1-0 to
improve to 3-1-1 since Jed joined the team. On Friday, February 23rd, Jed will join teammate Chad Dameworth for a Mardi Gras parade at St. Louis King of France Elementary School.

FEBRUARY 18, 2001
The New Orleans Brass were in Charlotte, North Carolina for a game against the Checkers, and there were some familiar faces in the crowd there to support Jed Whitchurch: Titans fans Pam and Barbara Bloom, and Bernie and Susan Haney made the trek south. The Brass prevailed 1-0 in a shootout over the Checkers. Check out Jed Whitchurch Photo Gallery 3
for game photos courtesy of Susan Haney.
FEBRUARY 16, 2001
Jed registered his first goal as a member of the New Orleans Brass tonight with a power play tally early in the 3rd period. He pulled the Brass to within a goal of the Pride, but Pee Dee held on to win 4-2 with another goal in the final seconds of regulation.
FEBRUARY 16, 2001
Check out Jed Whitchurch Photo Gallery 3 for new photos from Jed's New Orleans Brass debut, along with some links to Brass fan sites. Special thanks go out to Belinda Loo, Eldon Granier, Robbie Bogan, and Gregg Gadonneix for permission to post their photos. Tonight, Jed and the Brass visit the Pee Dee Pride.
FEBRUARY 10, 2001
Jed Whitchurch made his New Orleans Brass debut tonight in their 3-2 victory over the Louisiana IceGators, taking the opening face-off for his new team. He's wearing number 20, the number he wore in his first season with the Titans. Although he didn't factor into the scoring, Jed reportedly played well and received plenty of ice time as a center. After the game, New Orleans auctioned off the specialty jerseys worn at the game: Jed's sold for $425! (pictured below with the lucky winners).
FEBRUARY 9, 2001
The Unofficial Web Site will follow every step of Jed Whitchurch's great career! Check back often for news and his game stats.
FEBRUARY 8, 2001
The Trenton Titans have traded fan-favorite center Jed Whitchurch to the New Orleans Brass for center David Whitworth. Personally (and no offense to the other great players on the roster), I think they have just ripped the heart out of this franchise!
