NOTES: Manon Rheaume is a pioneer for the inclusion of women in professional ice hockey. She began ice skating at the age of three and learned to play hockey two years later.
After making history as the first woman to play at Quebec's Pee Wee Hockey Tournament and in a Major Junior game (for Quebec's Trois-Rivieres Draveurs), she set her sites on professional hockey. Manon was the first woman to play in a National Hockey League preseason game,
as a goaltender for the Tampa Bay Lightning against the St. Louis Blues on September 23, 1992. Soon afterwards, she became the first woman to play professional hockey in a regular season
game, for the International Hockey League's Atlanta Knights (12/3/92 against the Salt Lake Golden Eagles). She was a key member of Canada's Gold Medal National Women's Team in the 1992 and 1994 World Championships (tournament MVP both years), and helped Team Canada to a
Silver Medal in the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan. Manon has since retired from international competition and is employed as the Global Marketing Director for Mission Hockey. She has also started a family with husband Gerry St. Cyr (former minor league player) and son Dylan. Manon plans to
continue playing professional hockey part time for the WNHL's Montreal team. Her younger brother Pascal, whom she goaltended against in practice when they were young, plays for the NHL's St. Louis Blues.
