SEPTEMBER 1, 2003

Season number 10 came to a depressing end with a rainout for the Trenton Thunder closing the year with a 70-71 record and a 4th place finish. Not exactly the rosy start fans expected with the new affiliation with the New York Yankees.

NOVEMBER 22, 2002

Former New York Yankees and Norwich Navigators skipper Stump Merrill has been named as the new Manager of the Trenton Thunder. While not enjoying much success in the major league, Merrill has a long history of producing winners in minor league baseball.

SEPTEMBER 17, 2002

A new era in Trenton Thunder baseball began today with the official announcement that they have signed a 4-year deal as the new Double-A affiliate of the New York Yankees! If the success of the Norwich Navigators is any indication, the Thunder should be new and improved when Spring rolls around.

SEPTEMBER 2, 2002

A 7-game season-ending freefall sabotaged any hopes of the Trenton Thunder returning to the Eastern League playoffs. They finished their 9th season with a woeful 63-77 record, the worst since their inaugural season. Yet, the Thunder remained 3rd in the Eastern League in attendence with 5,835 fans per game.

APRIL 29, 2002

Due to a shortage of resources, we are unable to continue updating Trenton Thunder game results. We apologize for the inconvenience.

SEPTEMBER 3, 2001

Season number 8 came to a bitter end today for the Trenton Thunder as the Binghamton Mets prevailed 10-9 in the 10th inning to complete a series sweep. The Thunder repeated last season's 2nd worse franchise record of 67-75 with a 5th place finish in the Northern Division. Better luck next year!

AUGUST 6, 2001

My apologies to any regular visitors, but mini game recaps have been discontinued. Game results and standings information will continue being updated as time permits.

AUGUST 5, 2001

Portland's Revenge: it was the Sea Dogs' turn to use the long ball for late inning heroics, breaking a 1-1 tie with Trenton in the bottom of the 8th with a 2-run homer. The 3-1 setback dropped the Thunder back to the .500 mark at 56-56 on the season.

AUGUST 3, 2001

The Portland Sea Dogs were rabid, belting out 17 hits with 3 homers to blast the visiting Trenton Thunder 12-6.

AUGUST 2, 2001

If only Thunder pitcher Derrin Ebert could take that one pitch back, the one that yielded a 3-run homer which made the difference in Trenton's 5-2 road loss to the Portland Sea Dogs. The clouds continue to grow darker as the slumping Thunder throw away their playoff chances with a 55-54 record.

AUGUST 1, 2001

Homecoming wasn't very sweet for the Thunder as unearned runs spoiled a strong start by Josh Hancock, leading to a 4-3 loss to the Binghamton Mets. The loss was the 5th in the row for Trenton, effectively negating their previous 5-game win streak while casting a dark cloud over their playoff hopes.

JULY 29, 2001

The Trenton Thunder fell victim to the broom as the New Haven Ravens completed the series sweep with a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 9th for a 5-4 come-from-behind win.

JULY 12-22, 2001

The Thunder hovered around the .500 mark, alternating wins and losses perfectly to split 4-game home series against the Portland Sea Dogs and the New Britain Rock Cats. My presence on July 19th did little to inspire Trenton to victory as they fell 4-1 to the Rock Cats. However, the Thunder followed that loss with 3 consecutive road victories against the Binghamton Mets to improve to 52-47 on the season, moving into 3rd place just 6 1/2 games out of 1st place.

Luis Garcia's 2-run homer in the 1st inning was all the offense that the Thunder needed as they marched to a 2-1 home victory over the New Britain Rock Cats. Trenton pitchers Josh Hancock, Jorge DeLaRosa, and Bryce Florie combined to strike out 12 New Britain batters.

JUNE 19, 2001

APRIL 29, 2001

Deja vu all over again! For the 2nd consecutive game and the 3rd time this series, the Trenton Thunder fell to the Norwich Navigators by a 6-3 score (much better than the 22-4 blowout in the serie's other game, but losses nonetheless). Boston Red Sox infielder John Valentin, in his 2nd game of a rehab stint in Trenton, was unable to spark the Thunder lineup as they helped the Navigators pad their Northern Division lead.

APRIL 25, 2001

Nine days ago, it seemed that the 0-10 Trenton Thunder couldn't even buy a win, but now they seem invincible with a 6 game winning streak! Down 4-0, the Thunder rallied for 5 runs in the 7th inning to take the lead over the Rock Cats. However, New Britain managed to tie the game in the bottom of the 9th to force extra innings. Five innings later, Trenton broke the game open with a pair of runs and held off the home team for a 7-5 victory!

APRIL 24, 2001

The Thunder have rolled to their 5th consecutive victory! Trenton rallied for 6 runs in the final 3 innings to overcome a 5-0 deficit against the New Britain Rock Cats. With the 6-5 road victory, the 6-11 Thunder are only 4 games out of 1st place in the Northern Division.

APRIL 22, 2001

In the antithesis of Saturday's pitchers' duel, the Trenton Thunder outblasted the New Haven Ravens 14-9 today for their 4th straight victory! Facing an 8-2 deficit in the 7th inning, Mark Fischer delivered a grand slam wake-up call to put Trenton back into the ballgame. The following inning, the Thunder capitalized on sloppy Ravens fielding to rally for 8 runs and a commanding lead.

APRIL 21, 2001

Thunder pitchers Mike Kusiewicz, Marty McLeary, and Rafael Betancourt teamed up to hold New Haven to just 4 hits and no walks for a 1-0 shutout. The Ravens held the Trenton lineup to 4 hits as well, but one of them was a 4th inning Mark Fischer homer. The victory is the 3rd consecutive win (and 4th in their last 5 games) for the team that started the season with an 0-10 mark.

Trenton went on to post a solid effort en route to a 9-3 victory over the Mets, improving to 2-11 on the season while earning a series split with Binghamton.

APRIL 18, 2001

The euphoria didn't last very long for the Thunder. Trenton fell 4-1 to the Binghamton Mets to kill any momentum that Tuesday's win might have provided for the 1-11 Thunder.

APRIL 17, 2001

Hallelujah!!! The freefall has stopped! The Trenton Thunder posted their first win of the 2001 season with a 2-0 shutout of the Northern Division leading Binghamton Mets. Jason Norton, Marty McLeary, and Rafael Betancourt combined to blank the Mets while the Thunder posted a run in the 6th and 8th to end the season opening losing streak at 10 games.

APRIL 16, 2001

The Trenton Thunder continue to present their best imitation of the 1962 New York Mets, dropping their home debut 4-1 for their 10th consecutive loss to start the 2001 season. Trenton starting pitcher Mike Kusiewicz surrendered a pair of 2-run homers in the 4th inning as the Binghamton Mets became the latest team to prey on the Thunder.

APRIL 15, 2001

The world's longest road trip is finally over for the Trenton Thunder. No, it's not the number of games (other teams have played longer stretches away from home), it's the 9 grueling road losses to start the season that make it seem like the world's longest road trip. Trenton ace Justin Duchscherer tried to give the Thunder a fighting chance, allowing just 3 hits and no walks in 8 innings of work. Unfortunately, one of those hits was a home run that gave the New Haven Ravens a 1-0 lead in the 2nd inning. After the Thunder scored in the 3rd inning, the game remained tied 1-1 until the bottom of the 10th when the Ravens scored for a 2-1 victory. Now, the 0-9 Thunder finally return home to New Jersey with the dire hopes that a 7-game homestand at Waterfront Park will help them resurrect their 2001 season.

APRIL 14, 2001

So close, yet so far. The Trenton Thunder dropped to 0-8 with an 11th inning 7-6 loss to the New Haven Ravens. Trenton blew a 4-run lead to extend their franchise's worst losing streak to 8 games.

APRIL 13, 2001

The season starting drought continues for the Trenton Thunder with loss number 7. Sloppy fielding and anemic batting doomed Trenton to a 3-1 road loss against the New Haven Ravens.

APRIL 11, 2001

Oops, they did it again. The Trenton Thunder piled on another loss, falling to the Portland Sea Dogs 5-3 for their 6th consecutive loss.

APRIL 10, 2001

APRIL 7, 2001

Starting pitcher Casey Fossum and the Trenton Thunder dug a 5-0 hole by the 3rd inning and couldn't crawl out as they fell to the Norwich Navigators 8-4. APRIL 6, 2001

Today's game between the Trenton Thunder and Norwich Navigators was postponed due to rain and will played as the first game of a doubleheader on May 22nd.

APRIL 5, 2001

Hopefully it's not a bad omen that the Trenton Thunder began their 2001 season the same way as last year: with a 1-0 loss. The Thunder was silent in Norwich as the Navigators capitalized on a 5th inning homer and held Trenton scoreless for the season opener.
