The Tucson Scorch were scheduled to join the league this season, but the WPHL revoked their franchise on Opening Night (10/13/00). The Central Texas Stampede ceased operations on January 7, 2001. After the 2000/2001 season, the WPHL merged with the CHL. In addition to the Stampede, the following teams ceased operations and did not join the CHL: Lake Charles Ice Pirates, Monroe Mocassins, and Tupelo T-Rex.
